Comcast may meter the Internet too. This I can guarantee. Someday the Internet will be metered just like water. Intel is pumping the Atom chip. Microsoft LIVE seems to be dead. Or at least it is a bad brand. Look for IE8 beta 2 in August. Bill Gates refuses to leave company. Walmart is going to revive and promote Blu-ray. Someone has to do it. Microsoft offered Yahoo $40 in Jan. of 2007. What?? Russians are behind the bot attacks coming from china.

It appears that the next version of Mac OS X is code-named “Snow Leopard,” and will indeed be Intel-only.
Following the rumors from TUAW’s original scoop about Mac OS X 10.6 being readied for shipment as soon as Macworld 2009 and being Intel-only.

Ars Technica is saying that it has been confirmed to them that TUAW’s details are true. Snow Leopard is currently on track to come out during next January’s MacWorld, and it will not contain major OS changes.
The release is heavily focused on performance and nailing down speed and stability. With Apple’s current (and future) focus on smaller, thinner, and more mobile devices, this move makes perfect sense.
Things like the MacBook Air, iPhone, iPod touch, and other mysterious devices that have yet to be announced need better performance for better battery life, and that’s definitely something Apple wants to excel at in the years to come.
Something else that may happen is that Apple may eventually wrap everything in Cocoa, meaning that things that are currently only Carbon accessible will not be usable.
“Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” is just a few weeks away from release and the announcement of the much-rumored Metallica version of the game appears imminent, which is what Activision should have done in the first place.
Rumors began after a reference to the upcoming, but still-unannounced game, was found in a recent SEC filing by Activision.
There’s been no official announcement from Activision, but Metallica’s Web site offered some tantalizing tidbits.
“Let’s just say that perhaps, just maybe, if you’ve already mastered “One” on (Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock), there might be a pile of ‘Tallica songs in your future. More details later this summer…”
Industry speculation suggests that it will come out after “Guitar Hero: World Tour,” otherwise known as “Guitar Hero 4″ — which like rival “Rock Band” will feature a full complement of instruments beyond the guitar. The title is expected this holiday season.
“Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” is slated for release June 29. Unlike other “Guitar Hero” games, which feature scores of tracks from multiple artists, the Aerosmith expansion will include primarily that band’s catalog, along with a smattering of songs from bands that Aerosmith wanted included.
The game “storyline” features Aerosmith’s rise from small venues in its Boston hometown to stadiums, with motion-capture animated versions of all band members.
[ TUAW ] is reporting that they’ve gotten some insider information that Apple will unveil OS 10.6 next Monday at the WWDC keynote. There is no reason to believe that this will be the leap that leopard took, but it will leave PPC behind in a sad, but long time in coming farewell.
According to the report, Apple’s upcoming OS will focus solely on “stability and security”, and it will be the first Apple OS that is not PowerPC compatible. The new OS is supposedly slated for a Jan 2009 release, and some rumors are calling it “Lynx” based on trademarks going back as far as 2003, so while Apple may be dropping PPC, they seem to be sticking to the cat naming thing.
Apple has also trademarked “Cougar”, but given the recent popularity of calling older, sexually agressive women cougars, one would hope they would stay from that name…
Personally, I would go with [ Liger ], except it seems that Jobs wants to wait for 10.8 for that one…
Many will likely mourn the passing of Power PCs, but given that many smaller developers are ignoring the intel-based platform, this will likely be the kick in the pants needed to get them moving in the proper directions.
Will you miss the PowerPC, or have you already moved on?
Japan’s fastest growing mobile operator, [ SoftBank Mobile Corp. ], announced today that it has signed an agreement with Apple to offer the iPhone to its customers later this year.
Given that the carrier operates only 2G and 3G networks, the announcement further supports expectations that Apple is on the verge of introducing the 3G iPhone.
SoftBank Mobile Corp, Japan’s No. 3 wireless operator, recently beat all of its peers in annual net mobile subscriber growth for fiscal 2007, adding 2,676,500 subscribers thanks to its White Plan featuring lower fees.
As of April, SoftBank maintained a combined subscriber base of 18,779,100, which included 14,453,100 customers on its 3G network and 4,326,000 on its 2G network.
During the summer, at least, I like to try and make it to a new movie each week since there are usually several good ones being released …
This week, we can look forward to, or dread as the case may be :
Kung Fu Panda
Anything with Jack Black gets a few points from me, but given the quality of cartoons and animated movies these days, this one seems to be a step backwards.
Will I see it ? No, not in the theater anyway, this is a DVD movie at best.
Don’t Mess with the Zohan
I like Adam Sandler, I really do, but this movie just looks really really horrible. Generally with a movie like this, all of the really funny parts are in the trailer, and when watching the trailer I just kept waiting for something funny…
I guess I missed the humor in an Israeli special ops guys having sex with a early 60’s grandmother in the bathroom of a hair salon…
Will I see it? NO. In fact.. Hell NO!
Mongol
Mongol is an Oscar-nominated historical epic directed by Russian filmmaker [ Sergei Bodrov ] (Nomad). The film chronicles the early life of Genghis Khan, who was a slave before going on to conquer half the world in 1206.
I am not a huge foreign films fan, but this one looks pretty incredible and I will likely check it out, if for no other reason then I am very interested in Genghis Khan, and love a good historical epic.
Check out the trailer :
Will I see it? Yeah, I think this one is theater worthy, and I would love to see stronger, more epic movies coming into the US.
At For the Love of Geeks, we are all huge fans of Scrubs, and anytime we find a scrubs related anything we get excited..
Even though none of us are fluent spanish speakers, we still found this homemade spanish scrubs scene to be hilarious…
We also love the Russians, especially when they completely go psychotic from being in the cube farms for too long …
Today at&t announced a 20 percent increase to the typical download speeds across its 3G wireless network and a 50 percent increase to typical upload speeds.
The mobile operator and exclusive provider for Apple’s iPhone in the US said the upgrades are results of recent network enhancements, including the deployment of High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) technology across all existing 3G markets that is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
Customers on the network should now achieved download speeds between 700 Kbps (kilobits per second) and 1.7 Mbps (megabits per second), up from 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps. Meanwhile, upload speeds should jump to the 500 Kbps - 1.2 Mbps range, up from 500 to 800 Kbps.
The announcement comes just days before Apple is expected to take the wraps off its version 2 iPhone which will use this 3G network.
at&t says its 3G mobile network is available in more than 275 major U.S. metropolitan areas, adding that later this month it will become the first U.S. carrier to have fully deployed High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology across its entire 3G network.
By year-end, the company plans to offer 3G service in nearly 350 major metropolitan U.S. areas.
New 3D gaming technology was on show at Computex, Taiwan today with Sapphire demonstrating two systems using it’s new stereoscopic graphics driver and Sapphire-branded 3D monitors. The new driver polarises a stereoscopic image, which can be displayed on a two-layer LCD screen.
By using a special pair of polarised sunglasses, each eye can only see one of the two layers of the LCD, and when the brain combines the two images from both eyes, it makes the image on screen appear 3D. This is the same technique Nvidia uses for its [ Nvidia 3D Stereo driver ] to achieve the same effect.
Hopefully, you can shut off the 3D effect, since I am not sure I want my email popping out at me.
